Young City Gdansk
Young City is a revitalization project of the former shipyard territory in Gdansk, Poland. It is currently one of the largest waterfront revitalization projects in Europe. A whole new district of approx. 70 ha is to be regenerated immediately adjacent to the historic Old Town.
Laurus is the owner of 22 ha of fully zoned area, comprising the Young City project. The site adjoins the Old Town, along the banks of the Martwa Wisla, a sheltered inland waterway, with Solidarity Center, WWII museum and large shopping mall development in the neighborhood.
Young City is a mixed-use project with strong historic, demographic and economic fundamentals. It will create the whole range of new buildings sited amongst the historical dockside buildings – to enable a variety of uses: offices, arts studios, apartments, specialty shopping, hotels and conferencing, bars and restaurants – and lots of public space and waterfront boardwalks. The zoning is approved for 38 buildings (new or refurbished), with approx. 452’000 gross sq.m of development area, with an emphasis on a public space:
- 186’000 sq.m offices /studios / work space
- 109’000 sq.m residential development
- 31’000 sq.m hotels / conference facilities
- 29’000 sq.m specialized retail / market space
- 47’000 sq.m public spaces for arts /culture and leisure
- 50’000 sq.m car parking
- New road and infrastructure feeding the development site was completed in 2014.
Within our investment strategy for this project we consider developing/refurbishing buildings on our own account, in joint ventures with specialist developers as well as selling individual development sites to be developed by other market players who share our passion and vision for this site.
