The Danish aged care sector is facing the challenge of a rapidly aging population. At the same time, citizen expectations to receive dignified elderly care focused on individual needs and desires are increasing. Additionally, there is an expected shortage of around 15,000 professional caregivers by 2035.
In January 2024, Northern Horizon entered into an agreement with the developer Scandinavian Property Development to purchase a new care home under construction in Hørsholm, Denmark. The project marks the final investment in a series of 47 care home buildings that Northern Horizon has invested in through its fourth healthcare fund. A topping-out event was held in June to celebrate the progress in the building’ construction.
On 22 February 2024, the ongoing construction of the new care home and daycare facility in Kolding, Denmark was celebrated at an open event with speeches by the mayor and the future care operators. Once completed, the care home will offer 80 modern care apartments and the private daycare facility will accommodate 89 children.

Construction of a new nursing home in Lahti, owned by Northern Horizon’s Healthcare II –fund, is progressing according to plan. Located around 100 km north of Helsinki the new eldercare property – with facilities for 64 elderly persons – will have Mainio Vire, one of the top-5 Finnish care operators, as its tenant next year.
