In 2021, Northern Horizon, in partnership with OK-Fonden, healthcare provider Falck, and pension company PFA, established Forum for Fremtidens Ældrevelfærd (the Forum for Future Elderly Welfare) in Denmark as a special, non-commercial initiative.

The Forum aims to inspire new approaches and new solutions to ensure that all elderly who are in need of care have a free choice of care home and care services.

The 4th debate seminar took place in Copenhagen in October, gathering 125 attendees representing the full spectrum of the aged care sector.

The afternoon program and presentations began with broad reflections on freedom, equality, private welfare, and the development toward a new welfare mix in Denmark. A central topic in the day’s discussions was the challenge of attracting a future workforce, with emphasis on the potential of digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence as solutions that can help free up time for more citizen-focused care in light of the limited workforce expected.

The day concluded with a hands-on discussion on plans involving new forms of housing aimed at seniors, who increasingly seek various types of assisted living with more support and services than an individual home but more independence than a care home.

The day’s presentations and debates provided participants with knowledge, inspiration, and motivation for further development in the field.
